Aware Mediations

Healing Through Creative Interplay

Psychoanalytic therapy that honors the profound process of realization through the dynamic interplay of mind, emotion, and creative expression.

About Aware Mediations

Our practice name draws from the Japanese concept of aware (哀れ), as understood by philosopher Vicente Haya PhD — not merely sadness about transience, but any deep emotion provoked by external reality when something demands our attention simply because it exists. It represents that profound moment when we are moved not by personal preference, but by something that would impact any human being present.

This concept carries both gift and responsibility: when we feel deeply moved by reality, we are called to share that experience. In therapy, we honor this principle — that authentic emotional experiences must be expressed and shared to be real, and that healing happens not in isolation but through the creative interplay of genuine human connection.

At Aware Mediations, we don't overestimate awareness itself, but focus on the profound creation that emerges through interplay — between conscious and unconscious, therapist and client, individual experience and collective understanding. We prefer the term "realization" as used by British psychoanalyst Wilfred R. Bion, for its resonances to creation and bringing into existence as well as awareness. True transformation occurs when we move beyond private insight toward shared expression and mutual discovery.

Our Philosophy

We integrate traditional psychoanalytic approaches with arts-based interventions, creating a therapeutic environment where new possibilities can emerge through the interplay of different modes of expression and understanding.

  • Psychoanalytic exploration through creative interplay
  • Integration of arts, movement, and verbal expression
  • Focus on relational dynamics and co-creation
  • Safe space for authentic self-expression
